BAD VIDEO ART FESTIVAL

Janaina Wagner (Brazil, 1989) lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. She develops her researches in several medias, such as photography, books, video and paintings. The neuralgic conceptual point of her work are the relations of limit, control and contention that men establish with the world. Currently an artist in residency of Bolsa Pampulha (MG), Janaina took part in an amount of other residencies – Red Bull Station (SP), Phosphorus (SP), Casa Tomada (SP), Anarcademia, (W139, Amsterdam) and NES Skagaströnd, on the rural coast of Iceland. Among her main shows are the solos Criatura at Oficina Cultural Oswald de Andrade (SP) and Decupagem / Crônica de um final anunciado, MARP (SP); and the collectives Permanências e Destruições – Torre H (RJ), Hipótese e Horizonte – Observatório (SP), 4o Prêmio EDP nas Artes – Instituto Tomie Ohtake (SP). 

 

We were at an art residency located inside a farm at this time, and it was a very cold winter – for Brazilians, at least. The song that you hear is one of the most famous in Brazil – and it is also considered one of the most annoying. So I thought that there wouldn’t be anything more irritating than listen to this corny and romantic voice while watching a group of cows on the pasture, gazing at the sky and the endless nature. That's why I think this video deserves to be called bad video art.

Мы были в резиденции, расположенной на ферме. Была зима, очень холодная, по крайней мере, для бразильцев. Песня, которая использована в видео, - одна из наиболее известных в Бразилии. И в то же время одна из самых назойливых. Трудно придумать что-то более раздражающее, чем слушать это слащавое романтичное пение и смотреть на коров на пастбище, небо и природу без конца и края. Поэтому я думаю, что это видео заслуживает называться плохим.
